Programme

Our current programme is shown below.  Visitors can find up to date information here or on our Facebook page (if you “Like” the page you will receive updates as they are posted).

We have an ongoing programme  with a mixture of practical evenings, talks and demonstrations open to all plus a number of member only events such as outings and social activities. Unless otherwise stated we meet at Christ Church, High Street, Tonbridge with meetings beginning at 7.30 pm (door opens about 7pm) on the dates shown in the programme below. The meetings are held in the upstairs room but there is a lift available. Entry is via the rear door near Sainsbury’s car park which is now chargeable. Please note that for security purposes the door is locked at 7.30pm so please arrive before this time. The meetings usually run until about 9.30 pm with tea and coffee half way through the meeting.

Visitors are very welcome and the cost is £5 per visit with the first visit offered for free. All abilities are encouraged to come along and enjoy the evenings.

Next Meeting

8th May – Lucky dip still life. Please bring along a small unbreakable object in a bag for the lucky dip. You will be drawing whatever you pick in timed sessions.

19th July – Practical with John Woodberry. Monotone studies in charcoal and gouache.

Historic Programme

2026

24th April –  Practical of drawing with a dip pen. Please bring along watercolour paper, a dip pen and waterproof ink if you have it otherwise materials will be provided on the night.

17th – 20th April –  Exhibition at Tonbridge castle.

3rd April –  Practical with John Woodberry. Abstract watercolour, ink and oil pastel  landscape

27th March – Workshop on drawing skills with artist Anthony Nield. We picked up hints and tips from Anthony regarding sketching and drawing.

13th March – Techniques with oil pastels. Demo/workshop with Linda and Tina. We had a wonderful demonstration from Tina and Linda with using Oil pastels.

7th February – Painting watercolour skies. Demo/workshop with Ann Lovejoy – We enjoyed painting our own paintings with watercolors and having fun with skys 

13th February –   Practical. Create your own garden picture in which ever medium you choose – our first practical and we painted some wonderful pictures!

30th January –  Presentation on Gardens in Art by Linda.

2025

November 28th – Practical. Timed figure sketching. Please bring drawing medium of your choice (pencil, pastel, charcoal) along with paper/eraser etc.

November 14th – Practical. with John Woodberry. 40, 20, 10 is the tile for this session and it refers to the number brush strokes needed to create a picture. Acrylic again is possibly the best medium for this.

October 31st – Practical. Following on from his demo, Simon will be taking a painting workshop using acrylics. These are available in our art store for use if you don’t have any of your own along with brushes palettes etc.

October 17th – Demonstration by Simon Savage on creating a winter scene using mainly acrylics with a few extras. His work can be viewed on his website and Facebook.

October 3rd – Create your own piece of Fauvist art in any medium of your choice. We had such fun creating our wonderful works of art. So many creative pieces from landscapes to painting of animals. Please check our Facebook page to see these!

Sept 19th – Presentation and talk on Fauvism, looking at the original Fauve artists and some modern day works.  We were given a wonderful and interesting presentation on the works and art of the art movement Fauvism. This included old and new artists around the world, we’re all excited to see what we can create in our next session.

Sept 5th – Still life with a twist! Back after our Summer break! We were introduced to two  still life sets and the twist was to make what you chose  into a picture by creating our own background.  The choice given was  one indoor and outdoor set to draw or paint in our choice of medium. Lots of wonderful examples can be seen on our Facebook page!

11th July – Practical on creating a picture in collage. Please bring any materials you would like to use for this plus scissors and a pasting brush.

27th June – Practical looking at drawing techniques of pen and ink. You can use any pen of your choice, nib, biro, fine liner etc and will need pen and paper and pencil as a reference picture.

13th June – Talk and presentation on ‘Chasing Shadows’ by local photographer Stuart Mortimer.

30th May – AGM

18th April – Create your own picture with light, Untutored. – Lots of wonderful paintings painted! Please see our Facebook Page for all our wonderful creations!

11th – 14th April. Exhibition at Tonbridge Castle Chambers, 10am – 4pm

4th April Practical with John Woodberry on painting and drawing using colours from the kitchen.

21st March – Practical painting a sunset with Paul Gurney. This can be done in watercolour, gouache or acrylic and Paul will bring the reference for this

7th March – Tonal still life. Please bring watercolour for this exercise as it will be done in monotone so one colour only of your choice.

21st February – Talk and presentation on the Skagen Artists.

7th Feb – Quick pose life drawing with Paul Gurney. Paul will take us through how to sketch these 10 minute poses. Please bring along A3 cartridge paper or A4 if not and the choice of pencil 2b/3b or charcoal or pastel plus a rubber

24th January – Practical creating own silhouette picture – Wow!!! Some AMAZING creations have been created using all sorts of medium! Please check these out on our Facebook and Instrgram pages!!!
